World Book Day Day Dress-Up - GO ALL IN – Thursday 5th March 2026 - ACTION REQUIRED

On Thursday 5th March, LAB will celebrate World Book Day: a charity event organised by UNESCO to promote the enjoyment of books and reading, particularly amongst children living in countries with relatively low literacy rates. This is also the National Year of Reading in the UK and students are encouraged to Go all in! You can find out more information about local events on this website.

As you know, we take reading very seriously at LAB; our students read for over 30 minutes each day in their lessons, and are expected to read for 30 minutes at home each night. To celebrate World Book Day in style, therefore, on the 5th March we would like to invite students to dress up as a favourite literary character for a voluntary donation of £1 to UNESCO – this can be donated via parent pay.  However, we would ask that, true to the spirit of the day, students do not wear a costume representative of a character from film or TV, but rather a literary text.

Moreover, as much as we might encourage students to read The Catcher in the Rye or A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, alongside other seminal classics from the young adult genre, students are not permitted to dress as characters that mimic the everyday dress of young adults.

All students in Key Stage 3 have also been issued with a £1 Book Token where they can visit various retail outlets and get a great book for £1.

If students do not wish to take part, they should wear their uniform as usual. You may find this website helpful in providing simple and economical suggestions.

Please note that students who have PE on this day will be required to wear their PE kit as usual.

If you have any questions regarding World Book Day, please do not hesitate to contact us.

RBG Spelling Bee 2026

On Thursday, more than 300 students from Years 7 and 8 participated in Round 1 of the RBG Spelling Bee 2026. We are looking forward to finalising the two teams that will represent LAB when we host the competition as reigning champions on Tuesday, the 11th of March!

Year 10 Work Experience - Weekly update

Please ensure all information is submitted accurately so placements can be approved. The step by step placement guide can be found here: WEX Letter. If any parents or carers are able to offer a placement or have professional contacts who may be willing to support a student, we would be very grateful to hear from you.
