Module 4

Just a reminder that Module 3 finishes today at 3:15pm. We look forward to seeing everyone back for the start of Module 4 on Monday, 23rd February from 8:15am onwards.

Please find the term dates for the rest of the academic year attached. We hope you have a wonderful and relaxing half-term breaks.

Online Safety

Supporting children’s safety is a shared responsibility between families, schools and wider society. For parents and carers, this responsibility has become increasingly complex as children’s lives are now deeply intertwined with the digital world. Many parents face difficult decisions about how to balance protecting children from online harm with enabling access to spaces that are now central to learning, socialising and play.

In order to support you with educating your child about online safety, the Children’s Commissioner has published a guide:  What I wish my parents or carers knew: A guide for parents on managing children’s digital lives. It is an incredibly valuable resource.

Year 10 Reports

Year 10 Reports are published in MCAS today. This report contains current grades based on students’ performance in their assessments in January, as well as forecast grades for likely achievement in the GCSEs next Year. Please take the time to review and reflect on these grades with your child over half term. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s college.

Year 11 Mock Examinations

The final set of Year 11 Mock Examinations will take place the week after half term. The timetable for these examinations is available here.

Year 11 - Interventions after school

To support our Year 11 students as they approach their exams, we have assigned bespoke after school intervention sessions beginning on Monday, 23rd February. We ask that you work with your child to ensure they attend their specific sessions. These are designed to bridge knowledge gaps and boost confidence ahead of the summer.

Year 11 - LAB16 Guidance Interviews

Year 11 students who have applied for LAB16 will have received an invitation to a guidance interview with their College leadership.  The purpose of the LAB16 Guidance Interview is primarily to check the suitability of the IB programme and subject selections based on the student’s academic profile and career aspirations. However, it will also be an opportunity to discuss the behaviours required for success on our post-16 programmes, and for students or parents/carers to ask any questions they may have.

The pathways and educational experience at post-16 are complex, and there is a lot to understand and often misconceptions to address. Therefore, parent/carer attendance is important to ensure there is a shared understanding about your child’s next steps. For more information, please refer to the letter that was issued to parents/carers on Tuesday, 10th February.

Year 12 - UCAS Parent/Carer Presentation - Thursday 26th February, 5-6 pm

It’s great that so many year 12s have already been thinking about their next steps after post-16, with the vast majority considering university as their preferred route. We are inviting parents/carers and year 12 students to attend a UCAS presentation on Thursday, 26th February, to find out more about this pathway.

The talk will give an overview of the following topics:

  • UCAS application process and timeline
  • University entry requirements and applying as an IB student
  • An introduction to Unifrog, an online careers platform
  • Student finance

We encourage parents/carers and students to attend this talk even if they are unsure whether they wish to apply to university.

Behaviour for Learning

Our high expectations for students’ behaviour for learning and uniform will continue in module 4, and your support with this is invaluable.

Most notably, please remind your children about the importance of;

Punctuality – students need to be in their first lesson by 8.30am.

Students who arrive at school after 8.30am will be registered at the late gate and taken to lessons by a member of staff. Students receive a late detention during break time on the day that they are late, this is escalated to a 30 minute after school detention if missed. Students lose the privilege of finishing early on Wednesday and receive a two hour detention for every three lates in a module.
