Dear Parents/Carers,
Applications for LAB16, our Post-16 provision at Leigh Academy Blackheath, will be open to internal candidates (existing LAB students) from Monday 13th November. Please encourage your child to make their application soon to guarantee an interview.
At LAB16 we offer two student programmes, both accredited by the International Baccalaureate.
- The Diploma Programme
- The Careers-related Programme
The IB Diploma programme is widely recognised as the ‘Gold Standard’ in Post-16 education, offered by many selective and fee-paying schools. Research shows that IB students are better prepared for university, more likely to attend Russell Group (top-performing Universities) institutions, more likely to achieve better results once there, and less likely to drop out of university than students with other qualifications.
The Careers-Related programme is a vocational pathway similar to those on offer at some Sixth Form colleges, but accredited by the IB. It allows students to maintain both vocational and academic courses, as well as providing a ‘Core’ that prepares them for the 21st Century workplace. Both courses provide students with clear pathways into work, apprenticeships or Higher Education.
Applications will be open to external candidates (i.e. non-LAB students) from 16th November, and will remain open to all until 31st January 2024. Students have received information regarding the IB qualifications in assemblies and tutor time this year, and have another assembly on Monday 13th November.
I would like to remind you that our Open Event is on Thursday 16th November, from 5-7pm. At this event you will be able to hear from a range of speakers on all aspects of the IB programmes, as well as speak to leaders and teachers about specific subjects. Booking is not required, please come along from 5pm.
