This booklet has been written to give information to parents/carers who are interested in the provision of instrument and vocal tuition at LAB.

The Lessons

Lessons are taught in one of the practice rooms within the music department and we try to ensure that students do not miss the same lesson each week by rotating the times of the instrument lessons (timetable will be created by the instrument tutor).

The instrument timetables are sent via Google Classroom at the start of each module and will also be displayed on the Music Department noticeboard. Students are responsible for monitoring, in advance, the time of their lesson each week and this is how music tutors will communicate any feedback or changes to timetables. Students are also responsible for catching
up with any work and homework that has been missed from their usual subject lesson. Instruments do not need to be carried around school all day. Students can leave their instruments in the music store cupboard and collect them before their lesson.

The moment you submit the booking form and agree to the Terms and Conditions you are signing up to instrumental tuition. You agree for your child to be timetabled and are therefore liable to pay fees from the date you submit the form. You can sign up for instrument tuition at any point during the year using the booking form but please note that we usually timetable half a module in advance, so if booking forms are received prior to the next module we can process it in time for them to start lessons in the following module, subject to availability. If we are unable to add your child to a timetable, due to capacity constraints they will be added to the waiting list and you will be notified by email when a space becomes available.

Lesson Fees and Payment

The instrument* fees** are as follows (per lesson):

Lessons are £90 per module (£15.00 per 6×30 minute lesson slots)

*To hire an instrument from us, there will be an extra charge of £10 per module that will be added to your bill

**Parents/carers can receive a 50% discount if their child is in receipt of Free School Meals or takes GCSE Music

Payment of fees for the module’s lessons are requested via ParentPay and we ask that fees are payable in full within 14 days from the billing date. If payment is not received after 14 days, we reserve the right to withdraw their instrument lessons.

Attendance and Absence

Students must attend their weekly instrument lessons. If a student knows in advance that they are going to be absent from a lesson, they should inform the instrument tutor. If a student’s absence from lessons becomes a concern, the school will contact parents/carers. If a student misses more than 3 lessons in a module, we reserve the right to withdraw their instrument lessons.

Cancellation Policy

We require half a module’s (at least 3 weeks) notice from parents/carers and if a student wants to stop lessons a cancellation form needs to be completed. Cancellations will only be processed once the form has been submitted. Your three lessons notice will commence the week after you have submitted the cancellation form.
