If you were unable to join us for our LAB16 Open Evening in November you are welcome to come along to one of our LAB16 Open Mornings. The first of these is taking place on Monday 8th December, 9-10am. They are a great opportunity to find out more about our IB programmes and the LAB16 experience. Click here to book your place.
On Thursday 11th December we will be celebrating Christmas jumper day. Students will be expected to wear full school uniform and may choose to wear a Christmas jumper or Christmas headwear to support this event. This year we will be supporting Save the Children, if you would like to make a donation, please do so via Parentpay. Cucina will also be serving Christmas dinner on this date.
The immunisation team will be returning to LAB on Monday 15th December to administer flu vaccinations for any students who missed it during their first visit. If you have previously completed the consent form and your child did not receive the immunisation, there is no need to submit another one. Should you wish to change your original consent or if your child has already received the vaccination at your GP, please contact the Greenwich immunisation team at 0203 903 3345 or via email at krft.greenwichimms@nhs.net.
If you have not yet submitted a response, we kindly request that you complete the attached form even if you do not want your child to receive this vaccine. You can find the form at the following link: https://cypcis.kingstonandrichmond.nhs.uk/flu/2025/greenwich
The countdown to announcing the winners of our first set of Bronze Awards is now in its final week and invitations for our award winners will be sent out next week.
To achieve a bronze award, a student must earn 100+ merits, have at least 96% attendance, have received no more than three late marks since the start of module 1, and have fewer than 20 demerits with no supervisions, suspensions or directions off-site.
We look forward to celebrating the students who’ve met these high standards on Monday 15th December from 9am to 10am.
Year 12 Business students and Year 9 Airy students are organising a non-uniform day for LAB students to participate in with the goal of collecting as many food donations as possible for our local food bank. If you are able, it would be wonderful if you could buy something extra, or donate something from your cupboard. We know that there are many families who will be struggling over the Christmas period and we would love to be able to help families in our local community. All donations will be taken to Brookhill Children’s Centre Family Hub. They are especially short of toiletries but we also welcome tins, cans, pasta and biscuits.
We are also working in partnership with Homestart, a local charity who supports young families in need. A group of Year 9 Airy students raised over £2500 for Homestart last year and Finlay has now been given the School Champion role for the charity. Homestart is also the Mayor of Greenwich’s chosen charity this year. To support Homestart, we encourage students to wear Purple and Orange on Wednesday 17th December as they are the charity’s colours. If you would like to know more about the charity, please watch this video here which was shown in assembly this week.
Now that the year 11 mocks have been completed, it’s important that year 11s are continuing to consider their post-16 pathways and submit their applications. If your year 11 child has yet still to complete their LAB16 application please encourage them to do so as soon as possible. We will be starting to review applications next week and putting together the guidance interview schedule. A few reminders:
- Students do not need to wait until they have received their mock grades before they submit their application – they can update these after their application has been submitted.
- It’s OK if students are still unsure of whether they wish to pursue the IB DP or CP, or even if they are unsure on their course selection. They will have a guidance interview in which this will be discussed with them.
- LAB students have been emailed with their ‘Applicaa’ log-in details – they should use these to make their application instead of creating an account from scratch.
Students and parents/carers can contact us if they have any questions: LAB16@blackheath.latrust.org.uk
We appreciate your ongoing support in ensuring your child/ren do not miss out on their valuable learning time.
We know that every day spent in the classroom is a fantastic opportunity for them to grasp new concepts, build confidence, and strengthen friendships. To help secure their long-term success, it is crucial we work together to maximise their attendance, as missed learning time adds up quickly:
- 95% attendance means nearly two full weeks of missed learning across the year.
- 90% attendance means nearly four full weeks of missed learning.
- 80% attendance means nearly seven full weeks (or an entire module) of missed learning.
Additionally, arriving late causes your child to miss the start of the day and part of their first lesson. Please ensure students arrive at school by 8:25 am, ready to be in class and prepared for learning to begin promptly at 8:30 am. Thank you for helping us make every minute count!
At the end of Module 1, we sent out a newsletter for parents and carers explaining all of the events, trips and visits as well as our PSHE content delivered. If you have any feedback, we would appreciate you filling out a very short feedback form. This will allow us to tailor the upcoming Personal Development Newsletter.
