On the morning of 12th November, Leigh Academy Blackheath held a Remembrance Day gathering in Academy Square for year 7, bringing our school community together to honour those who have fought and died as a result of war.
The commemoration began with a welcome speech from the headteacher, Mrs Smith, setting the tone for a respectful event.
Paul (9A) performed The Last Post on trumpet with great skill, followed by two minutes of silent reflection.
To conclude the occasion, three students—Daniel (9D), Isabella (8E), and Yousef (7C)—each delivered an outstanding recitation of a poem: We Who Remain, War Girls, and The Ode of Remembrance, respectively.
The morning was appropriately reflective, but as has become customary, served also as a proud occasion for staff: to see our students respond to such a poignant event with great maturity, integrity and respect.
Thank you to all who were involved.
