Dear Parents and Carers,

Digital Detox Week – Years 7-10

Although we are a digital school, we also recognise the dangers that an overreliance on digital technology can have on one’s physical and emotional wellbeing, particularly at a young age. We will therefore be holding our sixth annual ‘Digital Detox Week’ the week beginning 29th April.

This means that all school-based activities will be completed without using digital technology and students are encouraged to replace their screen time with more physically active and collaborative experiences. Unless otherwise instructed, therefore, your child does not need to bring their chromebook the week beginning 29th April.

Previously, many of our parents and carers have also embraced ‘Digital Detox Week’ at home, by encouraging their children to participate in non-screen activities such as reading, playing outside or helping out around the home. For more information on the dangers of too much screen time, we recommend that parents and carers watch the following NOS course ‘What Parents Need to Know About Screen Addiction’.

Homework will continue to be set on Bromcom throughout the week (this is the only engagement with technology that we as a school intend to have at this time), as we felt it important to continue to keep parents and carers informed of homework requirements.

If you have any questions about ‘Digital Detox Week’, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s tutor in the first instance.

Best Wishes,
Ms A Phillips | Assistant Principal Airy
