LAB GCSE Results image

The learning community at Leigh Academy Blackheath (LAB) takes immense pride and pleasure in announcing that the Year 11 class of 2026 has secured another impressive set of GCSE and BTEC results. Following the strong performances of the 2024 and 2025 cohorts, these students have achieved an average Attainment 8 score that far exceeds last year’s national average.

One key factor that makes the achievements of LAB students so impressive is that most, 78% of the 2026 cohort, pursue the challenging and academically rigorous EBacc route, which includes students studying both a humanities subject and a language alongside the statutory English, maths and science courses.  This cohort of students achieved an Attainment 8 score of 53.78, compared to last year’s national average of 46. In English and maths combined, 60.3% of students attained grades of 5 or higher, while 77% secured a standard pass grade in both subjects. These figures are considerably higher than the 2025 national averages of 45% and 65% for these achievements, respectively.

Academic excellence was strongly demonstrated across the sciences this year. High achievement at grade 7 or higher reached 52.5% in physics, as well as 41% in both biology and chemistry. Strong performances at the 7+ benchmark were also recorded in history (38.8%), computer science (35.7%), mathematics (35.6%), and best English (35.6%). Overall, 68% of all grades were awarded at grade 5 or above, with 29% attaining grade 7 or higher.

Students across all grade levels have achieved remarkable personal successes, with many individual performances standing out.

“It has been a remarkable year for the academy. The accomplishments across both KS4 and P16 ensure all of our 2026 graduating students hold the qualifications required for the next stage of their educational journey. These outcomes will provide life changing opportunities for our students, and we are excited to accompany those collecting results today on their P16 IB journey at LAB16.

Results day is the highlight of the academic year in every school, as it brings staff and students together in recognition of the dedication and hard work that earned each individual their grade.  Today, we are celebrating successes at all levels and are proud of the outcomes achieved by our very ambitious and tenacious Year 11 class of 2026.”
