Dear Parents and Carers,

Key Stage 3 Events – Final Week of Term

We are pleased to share details of the exciting events taking place for Key Stage 3 students in the final week of term.

British Museum Year 7 Trip – Monday 14 July

Year 7 students will visit the British Museum to support their Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU) learning. By combining History, Maths and Art, students have studied the cultural importance of Islamic geometric patterns and created their own designs. During the trip, they will visit exhibitions linked to this work.

First Give Charity Finals – Tuesday 15 July – Periods 3 and 4

The First Give Charity Finals mark the end of an inspiring Year 8 Service As Action programme. Over the last two terms, students have worked in teams to research local community issues, connect with charities, and design social action projects to raise awareness and make a difference.

In this final event, the top teams will present their work to a panel of judges, sharing what they have learned and the impact of their projects. The winning group will receive a £1,000 grant for their chosen charity. This event celebrates students’ passion, teamwork, public speaking, and commitment to positive change in the community.

LAB Literary Festival – Tuesday 15 July to Thursday 17 July

Our annual LAB Lit Fest returns, inspired by the Welsh Eisteddfod, one of Europe’s oldest cultural festivals celebrating language, literature, music, and the arts. Over three days, students in Years 7 to 9 will step away from their usual lessons and take part in a wide range of activities linking literature to all subjects. They will have the chance to create art, poetry, short stories and more, with the work showcased at the MYP Showcase.

MYP Community Project Exhibition – Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July

Throughout this year, Year 9 students have been working on their MYP Community Projects, focusing on real-world issues and community action. This exhibition is a chance for them to share their research, learning, and impact with parents, peers, and staff.

Year 7 and Year 8 students will visit the exhibition during the school day on Wednesday 16 July. Parents and carers are welcome to visit on Thursday 17 July between 4pm and 5pm.

Sports Day – Thursday 17 July – Periods 1 to 3

Sports Day will take place on the rugby field next to school. All students in Years 7 to 10 will take part. We are expecting warm weather, so we will monitor conditions carefully and will update you if any changes are needed to ensure students’ safety.

MYP Graduation – Thursday 17 July – Periods 4 and 5

As our Year 9 students complete their journey through the Middle Years Programme, we will be celebrating their achievements at the MYP Graduation Ceremony. Every Year 9 student will receive a certificate from their tutor, and there will also be awards presented for outstanding achievement in individual subjects, as well as LAB Values awards.

MYP Showcase – Thursday 17 July – 5pm to 6pm

We warmly invite parents and carers to our MYP Showcase, where we will celebrate students’ work from the festival. The event will take place in the theatre.

Warm Weather Arrangements

Due to the warm weather, students are permitted to wear their PE kit from tomorrow (Thursday 10 July) until the end of term. We encourage all students to bring a hat, a refillable water bottle, and sun cream for Sports Day and other outdoor activities during the week.
