Year 10 to 11 Transition

LAB Letter Image

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are excited to share some important information with you as your child transitions into Year 11 and begins preparing for their final Key Stage 4 assessments.

At this crucial stage in your child’s education, a strong partnership between the school, parents/carers, and students is essential for academic success. Consistent support, both at home and in school, combined with focused revision and targeted intervention, can make a significant difference in students’ progress and confidence. As we move closer to the final examinations, it is vital that every student takes full advantage of the support available to them.

This letter contains important details regarding intervention, revision, and key ways you can support your child at home.

Revision

Revision is a key part of academic success, helping students retain knowledge, practise exam techniques, and build confidence. Effective revision involves more than just reading through notes — the best results come from active strategies such as self-testing, using flashcards, completing past papers, and teaching topics to someone else.

Creating a structured revision timetable and breaking study into manageable chunks can also reduce stress and increase productivity. We encourage all students to begin revising early and consistently and to seek support if they are unsure how to revise effectively.

The Key Stage 4 Revision Website contains a wide range of subject-specific resources, as well as a copy of the revision timetable and helpful guides on managing stress and general wellbeing.

Intervention commencing September 2025

To support your child’s progress, we are running a series of compulsory intervention sessions throughout the year:

  • Monday Intervention (3:15 – 4:15 pm):
All Year 11 students are required to attend a weekly intervention session every Monday. Attendance is compulsory and will be monitored.

  • Thursday Intervention (3:15 – 4:15)
Based on recent mock examination performance, many students will also be required to attend a second intervention session on Thursdays. Those identified will be informed, and attendance is expected.

  • Tuesday Intervention (Coursework Subjects):
Students studying coursework-based subjects will have an additional compulsory session on Tuesdays. Relevant students will be notified.

  • We ask that all parents and carers support this programme by ensuring students attend all sessions they are allocated to. Please arrange any other commitments around these times so that students can fully benefit from the support available.

Holiday Support and Key Dates

The school will also be open during the holidays to provide additional intervention and revision sessions. These sessions are crucial in helping students consolidate learning and prepare thoroughly for exams. Students invited to attend will be informed in advance.
