Subject: Year 11 Mock Exams (17th – 28th November)
Dear Year 11 Parents and Carers,
I am writing to inform you that the upcoming Year 11 mock exam period will begin next week. The exam period will run from Monday 17th November to Friday 28th November.
These exams are a crucial part of your child’s preparation for their final GCSEs, providing valuable practice and helping us identify areas of strength and topics for further support. The grades will also inform Forecast grades, which will be used when applying to 6th forms and colleges.
Exam Timetables
Students have already received their personal and detailed exam timetables via their MCAS account and also the school website. Please take a moment to review this schedule with your child so you are both aware of their specific exam dates, times, and locations.
Expectation
The following expectations must be adhered to in the mock exams, just as they will in the real exam. Please discuss these with your child prior to the exams:
- No electronic devices of any kind on their person in the exam room.
- Follow instructions immediately and respectfully
- Be punctual for an exam line up with the correct equipment.
- Line up and enter the exam room in silence.
How You Can Support at Home
Your partnership over the next few weeks is invaluable. I kindly ask that you help monitor your child’s revision and ensure they have a quiet space and a structured routine.
To support your child in preparing for and navigating the exam days, please also help them with the following practical points:
-
- Equipment Check: Ensure they have the correct, fully functioning equipment for each exam (e.g., black pens, pencils, rulers, and the appropriate scientific calculator).
- Rest and Nutrition: Encourage them to prioritize getting enough sleep and having a nutritious breakfast on the morning of each exam.
- Punctuality: Ensure they arrive at school on time and check their timetable the night if they are late, it will result in them having less time in the exam.
- Attendance: If a student misses an exam, they will need to complete it after school.
To support you with monitoring their revision, I highly recommend using the LAB KS4 revision website. This resource is designed to help families navigate the exam period and contains helpful sections on:
- Effective revision techniques
- Strategies for managing exam anxiety and stress
- Key information on the different exam boards
A consistent study plan, combined with breaks and good sleep, will make a significant difference.
Thank you for your continued support as we help our students prepare to do their very best.
Kind regards,
Mr Smith – Assistant Principal – KS4 Raising Standards
