LAB Weekly – Friday 7th November

Term Dates

We hope that you all have had a lovely Autumn break.

Over the half term, the Royal Borough of Greenwich highways team have resurfaced the pavement immediately outside the academy and fitted bollards and a new railing to make the crossing area used by students a little bit safer. It is not a complete solution for the challenges our community faces on Old Dover Road, but it is an improvement.  Please, can we ask that you continue to support all of our young people by not dropping your child off in a vehicle immediately outside the academy at the start or end of the day?

This week, we have shared several key pieces of information below, and we kindly request that you take the time to read them in full.

Thank you for your ongoing support, have a lovely weekend

We will be hosting our LAB16 open evening event on Thursday 13th November between 5pm and 7pm. If you choose to drive and park nearby, please respect our neighbours by parking safely on adjacent roads.

Flu Vaccination - Years 7 to 11 - Monday 17th November

A letter was shared this week providing the opportunity for your child to receive the flu vaccination on Monday 17th November. Please see the attached letter for your information. Closing date for registering is Friday 12th November 2025.

Snack Shack (outdoor kitchen)

The Snack Shack will open on Monday, 10th November, during both break and lunchtime. This addition to our restaurant will significantly reduce the waiting time for students, ensuring that they can maximise their break periods and spend less time queuing. Students will be able to purchase a range of hot and cold sandwiches, baguettes, cakes, cookies and drinks. Payment will be made through ParentPay using our biometric system.

Student lunch accounts

Please ensure that your child’s lunch account has been topped up prior to their lunchtime. Failure to do so will result in your child being unable to purchase their preferred items.

You are able to pay for lunches either with a debit card or via Parentpay. If you do not have your Parentpay login details please contact your college admin who will be able to arrange for these details to be sent to you.

If you are not in receipt of FSM and believe you may be entitled please complete the attached form with OFSM.

Vancols - School Photographs

If you placed your order with Vancols before 16/10/25 your orders were delivered and distributed to students this week. If you placed your order after this date your photos will be delivered to your home address. If by chance you have not received your Proof or it has been lost you can call Vancols Parent Line on 01206 273711.

PD Newsletter

Please find attached this module’s personal development newsletter.  The newsletter provides a comprehensive overview of the work our students will be completing during tutor time this module.

Remembrance

During Tutor time on Monday, 10th November, student government members will be collecting for the British Royal Legion by selling Poppies around the academy. If you would like your child to contribute, could we please ask that they bring a small cash donation to school?

Year 8 and 10 Health Questionnaire

Our school, along with several others, has agreed to participate in a very important Health Behaviour Survey amongst young people.  We have been asked to support the work of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Children’s Services and Public Health and we stand to benefit substantially through our participation in the survey.  This survey will be completed in school by our year 8 and 10 students only. Please see the attached letter for further information. Please be aware that all students will need the first 4 digits of their postcode to be able to complete this questionnaire.

RBG SEND

🌟 Help Shape SEND Support in Greenwich

STARSS Greenwich is bringing together families, schools and the Council to make support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) clearer, quicker and more joined-up.

We’re inviting parents and carers to help co-design practical improvements by sharing experiences and ideas – either in small design groups or 1:1 chats.

1:1 engagement will run throughout November. Once you express interest, we’ll send you options to choose a time that works for you.

Design groups will run from Monday, 1st December to Thursday, 4th December, with a second session the following week (same time and format). Each topic will be offered at two times (morning and evening).

The conversations will focus on key moments we know are tough:

  • Moving schools and settings: Early Years →  Primary; Primary → Secondary)
  • Preparing for adulthood: the right life skills to achieve the best after school
  • Understanding how decisions are made: clearer steps, timelines and who to contact

These sessions are a chance to share your experiences, shape practical solutions, and help raise the bar for every child and young person in Greenwich.

🔹 Use the form below to sign up to a 1:1 conversation or a group design session.

🔹 Know another parent who’d like to contribute? Share the form with them so they can sign up too.

Thank you so much in advance!

Clubs and Societies

Please see a copy of this module’s Clubs and Societies that LAB is offering. Clubs and societies are a fantastic way for your child to make new friends, meet new teachers and learn a new skill. Please do encourage your child to attend at least one club this module!

Attendance and Learning

Thank you for your ongoing support regarding attendance and punctuality.  Missed learning has a negative impact on success, and we must minimise the amount of time any child spends out of school.

95% attendance is nearly 2 weeks of missed learning.

90% attendance is nearly 4 weeks of missed learning.

80% attendance is nearly 7 weeks or one module of missed learning.

All students must arrive by 8.25 am and be in class ready for learning by 8.30 am.

Communication Protocol

Please find attached a letter detailing our communication protocol.
