We will be hosting our year 11 and 13 intervention sessions during the first week of the half term (w/c Monday 20th October). You will have received a personalised tuition plan, if not please contact your college admin.
We are pleased to share our Home-School Agreement, a crucial document designed to foster a strong and collaborative partnership between our learning environment and your family. This agreement outlines the shared responsibilities, expectations, and commitments that are vital for ensuring your child’s success. We kindly request that you take the time to read through this attached document and then complete the accompanying Google Form by Friday 17th October 2025.
Please find attached our upcoming year 11 and year 13 mock timetables.
We have updated our behaviour for learning policy. Please see the attached.
From the beginning of Module 2, any student who arrives late to school will be required to attend a late detention during breaktime on the same day. We will no longer be holding late detentions on a Wednesday after school. This policy applies to all students and is intended to encourage punctuality and responsibility.
We have launched a new reward structure for students this academic year, and part of this includes our new Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.
Bronze awards will be awarded in module 2 and the criteria for a student to gain a Bronze award is to have at least 96% attendance, to have three or fewer late marks, fewer than 20 demerits and no, supervisions, suspensions or directions off-site.
Students will also be able to gain Bronze awards in modules 4 and 6.
Students who achieve a Bronze award in module 2, are eligible for a Silver award in module 4 for maintaining the standards shown for a Bronze award.
Those students who gain a Silver award in module 4 are eligible for a Gold award in module 6, again for maintaining the high standards of at least 96% attendance, to have three or fewer late marks, fewer than 20 demerits and no, supervisions, suspensions or directions off-site.
We are looking forward to celebrating with those students who achieve the Bronze Award at the end of module 2
In Module 2, we are opening our new outdoor kitchen in the main playground. The servery will be open at break and lunch, and will provide a range of pre-prepared food items for students and staff. The main restaurant will still serve the full Cucina menu, including plated meals at lunchtime.
We hope that this additional servery will reduce the size of the break and lunch queues, making the queuing experience more pleasant for everyone!
A number of our students will be going to the Netherlands on a Football Tour between Monday 27th and Friday 31st October. We will be updating families via Facebook.
We wish all teams the best of luck in all their matches and hope they enjoy the trip.
We did it!
We’re proud to announce that Leigh Academy Blackheath has achieved the School Games Mark Gold Award for our commitment to school sport, physical activity, and competition!
A huge thank you to all our students, staff, and community partners who make our PE and sport programme such a success- this award recognises everyone’s hard work, enthusiasm, and team spirit.
In celebration of National Poetry Day this month, we are inviting all students to enter the Royal Borough of Greenwich poetry competition. The theme for National Poetry Day 2025 was PLAY, so students can write any type of poem inspired by the theme of play. The maximum number of lines is 20. There will be a winner and runner up for each key stage. More information can be found on the English Google classrooms. Last year, we had the KS3 winner on the theme of numbers, so we look forward to this year’s entry!
As we look ahead to the Year 10 work experience programme later in the year, we’d like to encourage parents and carers to start early conversations with their children about potential placements. This is a great opportunity to explore areas of interest and identify any contacts or organisations that might be able to support them. Further information about the process and key dates will be shared during our upcoming Parent Consultation Evening next module.
We would like to reassure all parents and carers that the DfE’s recent announcement to remove ‘Large Programme Funding’ for the IB Diploma course will not impact our ability to deliver IB courses at LAB. Both the MYP and CP courses are unaffected, and base funding for DP students is still provided, as it is a core P16 course recognised in the same way as A-Levels by the DfE. As the DP is a large programme course, meaning it demands more teaching time than the standard pathway of 3 A-Levels that the majority of UK schools offer, a school can claim extra funding if students achieve a mark of 28 points or above. The pass mark for the DP is 24. Given the size of LAB16 and the percentage of those students taking the DP, we lose a much smaller amount of money than other schools with significantly larger sixth forms.
We do not intend to remove the DP at LAB based on the recent announcement, and are wholeheartedly committed to the IB philosophy and vision. We are proud to be an IB World School.
As we are part of the UK IB community, we are supporting IBSCA – IB Schools and Colleges Association to challenge the DfE’s decision, and we will inform you of any updates relating to this as they arise.
