End of Module 5

An elevated view of students in a courtyard on the LAB grounds

Dear Parents/Carers,

A busy end of module is commonplace at LAB, and the end of module 5 has proved no exception. On the last day before the Jubilee Bank Holiday break, the majority of our students have been looking at how the UK has changed over the past 70 years, whilst the rest of our students have been undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition in Kent. Over 90 students joined Mr Tebbutt and a devoted group of staff to complete the challenge; what an excellent achievement made by all of them, and a great way to start the break!

There are a number of key pieces of information to share ahead of module 6, and a few reminders regarding uniform and basic equipment requirements. Please review the information below carefully:

Changes to the Academy Day

The DfE has published new information regarding expectations pertaining to the length of the school week, making it clear that state-funded mainstream schools should deliver a compulsory school week of at least 32.5 hours by September 2023.

In order to meet these expectations we will need to make some slight adjustments to our current timetable and propose to do so from September 2022 rather than wait until September 2023. A letter will be sent out after the half term break outlining the new timings, but in short we intend to add 5 minutes to each lesson (rather than an extra few lessons per week) to make up the shortfall.

LAB Lit Fest

This year’s LAB Lit Fest will be held on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th June 2022. Following the multiple disruptions to school life over the past two years, we have planned an ambitious programme of events which includes all KS3 students participating in an offsite trip. Theatre, Museum and Gallery visits will bring the focus literature to life and provide our students with a range of invaluable experiences.

Uniform and Basic Equipment

Just a gentle reminder that all students are required to wear their blazers, unless they have a timetabled PE lesson and are wearing their PE kit on that day. Shorts should be tailored, charcoal in colour and to the knee. Skirts are not to be rolled up and should also be knee length. If the weather is exceptionally hot, students will be permitted to remove their blazers in class by their teacher. With warmer weather upon us, please ensure your child has a refillable water bottle with them everyday.

End of Term Arrangements

Module 6 ends on Friday 21st July at 12.20pm.
