Parent Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

Last week you received a letter from Simon Beamish – LAT CEO, about the end of the legal duty to self-isolate in the event of a positive test result for COVID-19 which came into effect last Friday. As outlined in the letter, government advice remains that people who test positive should stay at home and avoid contact with other people for at least five days. We strongly encourage all of our staff and pupils to follow this advice and value your support as parents to ensure this is the case.

Over the last few weeks we have been able to lift the remaining restrictions in the academy, and although we remain cautious of what ‘Living with COVID’ means for us as a secondary school community, we are excited to finally be able to operate more easily and without having to navigate and implement the endless, and ever changing, sets of DfE guidance which has been our responsibility for the last 2 years.

Consultation and Options Evening

We are delighted to announce that the Year 7 and 8 consultation events this module will be held onsite, as will the Year 9 Options evening. Details of each event will be sent out to relevant families nearer the time, but a brief overview of the dates can be found below:

  • Year 7 Consultation Evening – Wednesday 30th March 2022
  • Year 8 Consultation Evening – Thursday 10th March 2022
  • Year 9 Options Evening – Wednesday 16th March 2022

Parents and Carers Forum

Our next Parents’ and Carers’ Forum which will be held on Monday 14th March between 4.30 and 5.30pm. The focus of this forum will be on Data and Assessment and will be led by Mr Ritchie, Vice Principal and Head of Sancho College.  If you would like to attend our upcoming Parents’ Forum, please confirm your attendance by registering here.

Clubs and Societies

Please find the current Clubs and Societies timetable here; we hope to see a few new faces now that the evenings are getting a little bit lighter.

We will be opening our cloakroom facility this module, starting with access for our year 7 students, and then rolling it out to all year groups by the end of module 4.  Information on how this works will be shared with students during tutor time.  For now, we will be asking students to continue wearing PE kit on the days when they have PE on their timetable, so the cloakroom will mostly be used for coats, PE kit for clubs, musical instruments or similar.  Please, do continue to encourage your child to pack their bags in the evening for the next day, packing only the equipment and books required as per their timetable.

We know that the war in Ukraine is causing concern and upset across our community.  As always our teachers will be working with students during tutor time this week and beyond to provide support, information and guidance to help them to understand the current situation.

The next few weeks will be incredibly busy as we complete the recruitment process for next year’s teaching staff.  One significant appointment will be a new Assistant Principal who will lead LAB16, our sixth form provision which will open in September 2023.  More news on this after Easter, but needless to say, we are very excited to be able to share more information with you all soon!

Thank you as always for your ongoing support, we were overwhelmed by the lovely feedback we received from LAT’s recent parent/ carer survey.  We have done a lot of work going through all of the information that it generated and hope that many of the issues raised will be resolved now that the covid restrictions have been lifted.  College teams will be reaching out to individual families to respond to personalised comments made in the survey, but as always if you would like to speak to your child’s teacher, or a member of the college leadership teams, please do not hesitate to contact them directly via email ( or using

Best Wishes,

E Smith
