Letter to parents – 4th January 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been wonderful to welcome back our year 7 and 10 students today, and we are looking forward to seeing our year 8 and 9 students tomorrow.  A gentle reminder of the arrival times for Wednesday 5th January 2022 are as follows:

  • Normal arrival time (8.00am-8.30am): Year 7, 10 & 9.
  • 11.00am arrival time: Year 8.
  • All year 8 and 9 students are asked to take a lateral flow test at home prior to returning to the academy.

Lateral flow test home kits

We will be issuing a box of lateral flow tests to all students on Friday ready for them to resume the twice weekly testing on a Sunday and Wednesday evening.  Please, ensure that all students complete a test at home on Sunday 9th January 2022.  We are aware that at times it has been difficult to get hold of lateral flow tests over the festive break, but please refrain from using these tests for other family members as we only have a limited supply.  This box of 7 tests should last until the end of January.

Face coverings

Please ensure that all students have a face covering with them to wear during the day, unless they are exempt.  The DfE is recommending that face coverings are worn in classrooms where pupils in year 7 and above are educated. The advice is short term only, to support pupils and teachers as they return to school this term, and will be in place until Wednesday 26 January, when Plan B regulations are currently scheduled to expire, at which point it will be reviewed.

Self-isolation period

Since Wednesday 22 December, the 10 day self-isolation period for people who record a positive PCR test result for COVID-19 has been reduced to 7 days in most circumstances, unless they cannot test for any reason.  Individuals may now take lateral flow tests on day 6 and day 7 of their self-isolation period. Those who receive two negative test results are no longer required to complete 10 full days of self-isolation. The first test must be taken no earlier than day 6 of the self-isolation period and tests must be taken 24 hours apart. If both these test results are negative, and the individual does not have a high temperature, they may end their self-isolation after the second negative test result and return to school from day 7.

Thank you as always for your ongoing support.

Best wishes,

E Smith | Principal
