Christmas Celebrations and End of Term

Christmas tree and fairy lights

Dear Parents/Carers,

The end of Module 2 is always a busy time with festive celebrations and events, and this year is no different. Despite some of the disruption we are experiencing due to growing numbers of COVID cases nationally, we are determined to make sure the end of term at LAB is as ‘normal’ as possible. Please, support your child and the academy by ensuring lateral flow tests are taken on a Sunday and Wednesday, any positive results must be reported to the academy and then followed by a PCR test as soon as possible. A result from a PCR test will normally take 24-48hours. Please inform the academy of the PCR result as soon as possible.

Please find below details of the festive celebrations and events planned for the last two weeks of term:

Thursday 9th December

The Winter Showcase will be held from 3.15pm-4.45pm in the theatre, and will be attended by students only. However, so that we can maintain the realistic feel of a ticketed performance, the event will be recorded with access to parents and carers via a time limited digital link. Access to the performance will be from 2pm on Friday 17th December to 6pm on Sunday 19th December, please use this link to register your interest.

Friday 10th December

Christmas Jumper Day – we ask students to wear their normal school uniform with a festive jumper over their shirt. This is not a full non-uniform day but is always an enjoyable day for staff and students. We will be collecting donations from all students who participate on the day via Parent Pay. A donation of £2 per child would be appreciated. This year we will split donations between our College Christmas Charities; Greenwich Foodbank (Sancho), Cancer Research UK (Fawcett) and British Red Cross (Airy).

The restaurant will also be serving Christmas Lunch, the menu is attached to this letter. Tickets can be purchased in advance any day this week from the restaurant team, or on the day at the till. Payment will be made via Parentpay accounts, please note that sometimes top-ups can take 24 hours or more to register on to student accounts.

Design and Technology Christmas Market on 10th December – the students will be selling a range of items they have made, from Christmas cards and decorations to cakes and biscuits. Students and staff are encouraged to bring in money to purchase these items as they cannot accept payment via Parent Pay. Items will range from £1-£3.

We will finish for the Christmas holiday on Friday 17th December at 12.20pm. The restaurant will not be serving lunch on this day, but food will be available for students at break time. Those who are eligible for free school meals will be able to collect a packed lunch as they leave the academy at the end of the day.

Best Wishes,

E Smith
