Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been an incredibly long Module 1, but as we close for the much needed half term break members of the LAB community are very happy to have spent the last 7 weeks learning and working together with very few of the Covid-19 restrictions experienced last academic year. It has been fantastic to see year groups mixing together at lunchtimes, full use of the building and our facilities, and less constraints on classroom layouts and approaches to learning.
Once again we have received a huge amount of interest from year 6 families throughout the secondary school admissions process. Our students were highly praised for their behaviour, attitudes and displaying all 5 of the LAB values when engaging with over 2000 visitors at our open evening and mornings combined. If you are applying for a place at LAB for a sibling this year, please remember to complete a supplementary form application as well as RBG’s e-admissions form.
This year we have moved from 6 newsletters to 3 per year, with the next edition of LAB News set to be published in December at the end of module 2. I have provided some key dates and information for upcoming events below, and Heads of College will be sending out their own letters to you all today.
Start of Module 2
We are looking forward to seeing our students when they return after the half term break on Monday 8th November. The gate opens at 8.00am, any arrival after 8.30am may be recorded as a late mark.
All students should take a Lateral Flow Test on Sunday 7th November, before returning to the academy. If your home test gives a positive result then your child must not attend school under any circumstance.
Please report your positive result to the academy and then book a PCR test as soon as possible. A result from a PCR test will normally take 24-48hours. If your PCR test is negative then your child can return to school. Please inform the academy of the PCR result as soon as possible.
The Covid vaccination clinic will be held on Tuesday 9th November at LAB.
The vaccination programme will be led by Greenwich GP’s working in partnership with Young Greenwich School Nursing Service and Charlton Athletic Community Trust. Consent forms were sent out via email on Wednesday 20th October, please complete this online ahead of the vaccination date.
The Flu vaccination clinic will be held on Monday 22nd November by the NHS immunisation team. Consent forms have been sent home via students and should be returned to the academy by Friday 12th November.
Year 10 Consultation evening
We will be using SchoolCloud once again for our Year 10 Parents Evening on Thursday 18th November. Appointment times will be available to book from 9.00am on Monday 8th November, please look out for an email regarding logins and how to book during the second week of the half term break.
The rescheduled date for Academy Photographs is Thursday 25th November.
End of Module 2
We break up at the end of Module 2 at 12.20pm on Friday 17th December.
We are delighted to announce that following the recent governor elections Helen Sorrell has been elected as our new Parent Governor and we look forward to working with her in this role. A huge thank you to all those who put themselves forward as part of the process.
We hope you all have a restful half term break, don’t forget the clocks go back on Sunday 31st October.
