Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of the summer break and look forward to the start of the new academic year, we wanted to share a number of important pieces of information with you regarding the 2021-2022 academic year.
Start of term
Year 7 and 10 students start on Wednesday 1st September 2021
Year 8 and 9 students start on Thursday 2nd September 2021.
All students are required to arrive by 8.30am when the pedestrian gate will be locked. Students arriving after this time are at risk of being issued a late mark.
It is essential that students are not dropped off or collected directly outside the academy gates as this causes disruption on what is an already busy road at the start and end of the academy day. Please promote road safety for all students by dropping off or collecting your child away from the academy, and allowing them to complete the last part of their commute on foot.
September 2021 – Lateral Flow Testing
As you will have seen in the news, all secondary school students are required to take 2 lateral flow tests on-site at the start of the new academic year. In order for your child to take these tests on-site the academy must have consent. To support this process if you have not yet done so, please complete the necessary consent form which can be found here. To ensure we can process the information ahead of the start of term, the deadline for completing the form is Friday 27th August.
Home testing kits will be distributed to all students after their second on-site test. The entire academy community will continue to test every Wednesday and Sunday throughout Module 1.
If it is possible, please ensure that your child completes a lateral flow test at home prior to returning to the academy to ensure they are familiar with the process of taking the test, and to identify any potential positive cases before all students return.
Covid-19 arrangements – Module 1
The new government guidance states that schools will no longer be carrying out contact tracing if any staff and/or students test positive for COVID-19. Close contacts will now be identified via NHS Test and Trace. Contacts from a school setting will only be traced by NHS Test and Trace where the positive case and/or their parent or carer specifically identifies the individual as being a close contact.
Individuals are not required to self-isolate if they live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, or are a close contact of someone with COVID-19, and any of the following apply:
- they are fully vaccinated
- they are below the age of 18 years and 6 months
- they have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
- they are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons
Instead, they will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace, informed they have been in close contact with a positive case and advised to take a PCR test. We would encourage all individuals to take a PCR test if advised to do so.
Students and staff will not be required to wear face coverings on-site.Academy calendar. Please find a copy of the 2021-2022 academy calendar on our website here.
We look forward to seeing our students return next week.
