We have become very familiar over the last 18 months with the need to be flexible and responsive to the ever changing situation caused by the pandemic. We have ended this week with approximately ⅓ of our students working remotely due to positive cases across the academy, but hope to end the academic year with most returning either on Monday or Tuesday of next week. This has restricted some of the end of year celebrations we had planned, but not all of them; thank goodness!
Change to the September Start Date
Under the new guidance for schools, from September we will not be following the same protocols for student groups – neither bubbles, nor isolating whole classes following the report of a positive case. However, students will be required to complete two on-site Lateral Flow Tests at the start of the new term, and as a result we will be staggering the return of students across the 1st and 2nd of September to allow us to achieve this smoothly. Therefore, the amended start dates for LAB students in September are as follows (please note that students are expected to arrive between 8.00am-8.30am):
Wednesday 1st September 2021 – Year 7/10
Thursday 2nd September 2021 – Year 8/9
We will not be sharing any further plans at this stage as we anticipate possible further changes to the guidance over the summer. However, we will of course send out any necessary plans or changes to arrangements before the start of term if required.
End of Year Reports
The end of year reports will be published on MCAS on Wednesday, 21st July 2021. If you have any issues accessing your MCAS account, please contact the main office or a member of your child’s college team prior to Wednesday for support.
Tour of the Academy
A letter was sent out last week regarding the opportunity to tour the new building on Tuesday, 20th July 2021, with details of how to book a time slot on EventBrite. We have deliberately kept this event low-key to reduce the number of people on site and thus minimise the risk of possible virus transmission. It is essential, therefore, that you have booked a time slot and are accompanied by your child for the tour of the building as there are no alternative guides available. Masks will need to be worn at all times inside the building, unless the visitor is exempt from wearing one.
We ask that details of the tour are not shared on social media, as we have had a lot of enquiries from potential 2022-2023 parents and carers trying to join the tour. This event is only for our current families. We have been desperate to show you around since September and this is the first and final chance to do so this academic year. We are planning to hold tours in September for prospective families as part of the year 6/7 open events so they will get the opportunity to visit in the new year.
Last Day of the Year Arrangements
Please remember that the last day of this academic year is Wednesday, 21st July 2021; students will be leaving the site at 12.20pm. The LAB community have decided that this will be a non-uniform day, and that collectively we would like to support the charity ‘Show Racism the Red Card’. Donations can be made in the usual way via ParentPay.
Please ensure that your child wears appropriate clothing and footwear. For example: sliders, flip flops, crop tops, very short shorts, or similar are not permitted.
We will be publishing the last edition of LABnews at the end of term. Please look out for this as it is a great celebration of the wonderful work done by the entire LAB community this year (and what a challenging year it has been)!
Wishing you all a restful and sunny weekend.
